B Is for Baby Hair —
Alphabet book
B Is for Baby Hair is an alphabet book celebrating Black culture, identity, and history through early learning. For this project, I developed the full visual direction—illustrations, sketches, and character studies—grounded in research of children’s facial features, natural hair textures, and clothing to ensure authenticity and respect.
For the “B” spread, I paid special attention to the beauty and individuality of Black hair. As in many of my works, I included a subtle Easter egg: the mother’s golden earring shaped like the letter “b,” and a small hair-inspired detail integrated into the letterform itself—allowing typography and culture to quietly speak together within the image.
